Commissioner Lara invites public input on final phase of new wildfire modeling regulation

Good morning Alpine Meadows Home Owners.

First, I wanted to thank you all for coming to the meeting on Saturday. The Senator was very pleased to meet you all and hear your comments and concerns for your community – even if it was during the hottest week of the summer.

She mentioned that there was a Zoom meeting next week hosted by Insurance Commissioner Lara’s office on the proposed agreement with insurance carriers, the Fair Plan, and his office.

Below are the basics for that event including links to registration, submit questions, and additional documents. I have attached two of those documents her for your review. I hope this is helpful and know that I will be on that zoom with you.

In a California “first,” insurance companies will write more policies in wildfire distressed areas

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is inviting public input as he begins the final phase of approving a “first of its kind” catastrophe modeling and ratemaking regulation that will help restore options for all Californians and prepare for the reality of climate change. Today, the Office of Administrative Law published the regulation online, marking the beginning of a public comment period that will conclude with a hearing convened by Commissioner Lara on September 17. The regulation has received strong public support in two previous public meetings the Department has held.
